This year our whole school is learning the waiata Purea Nei so that we have something to sing at school events, powhiri (welcome) and poroporoaki (farewell). Here’s a clip that you can use to help you learn the words and tune.
We’ve also been learning and revising lots of kupu (words) in our Te Reo lessons with Whaea Adrienne. Leave a comment with any that you can remember in both Te Reo and English!

Kia ora te whanau! Here are some translations of a few common (and not so common anymore?) slang words and phrases into Te Reo Māori I thought we could learn. For the visitors from countries outside Aotearoa/New Zealand, this is our other official language. We learn it once a week with Whaea Adrienne and if you’d like to learn how to pronounce words or pick a few greetings this is a great place to start.
We’d love to know if any of our visitors speak languages other than English. Please let us know in the comments!
